When it comes to July 1, things are different in Newfoundland. It’s Canada Day, but its also Memorial Day. We always attend the Memorial Day ceremony in the morning then do Canada Day later in the day. It sounds strange, but yeah, things are different here. Rick Mercer has a good blog post about it here.

After that we went out to Paradise where they had a really great Canada Day celebration going.

A pretty great day over all. Off to see the fireworks in the rain!
Took the kids on a hike around the Botanical Garden. They had a bunch of cool stuff for the kids today…face painting, scavenger hunt, etc. They had a good time. I always like going there to see the different kinds of plants they have.

Had a little party at the house to celebrate Nik’s first birthday. Teddy bear themed with entertainment from Terry Rielly. Was a pretty fun day.

My youngest son turned 1 today. Happy birthday Niko! Here’s a side by side of the day he was born and a shot taken this morning.

Saturday was the 4th annual 3hr Challenge where people are encouraged to clean up their community. We decided to do our road, the beach and trail behind the house. Ended up with 4 bags of trash.

I’ve been working on Melisa’s potting bench over the past 2 weeks. I made the plan myself from a mix of a bunch I found online. All that’s left now is to put the back on and staining/weatherproofing. I’m pretty proud of it.

Won’t be long before Nik is walking.
